Farewell is one of the few places in Asheville that works just as well at 8am as it does at 8pm. Mornings run as a proper specialty coffee bar — carefully made espresso, a room built for lingering, and the kind of quiet that makes it easy to stay longer than planned. After dark, the same space becomes a natural wine bar with small plates, lower light, and a noticeably different energy.

What it's like in the morning
The coffee side is built for people who care about the coffee. If you want the clearest read on the place, order espresso — it's the drink with nowhere to hide. If you'd rather sit with something longer, this is a good room to do it in.
It's also a genuinely workable morning spot: calm enough to think in, social enough that you're not the only one lingering. If you're the sort of person who picks a café by whether you can stay for two hours, this one holds up.
What it's like at night
In the evening the focus shifts to natural wine, served alongside small plates. If natural wine is new to you, this is a forgiving place to start — say what you normally drink and let the staff point you somewhere. The category rewards being guided rather than guessing off a list.
Treat the small plates as part of the plan rather than an afterthought. The menu is built for sharing, and the evening works best when you order a few things and stay a while.
Who it's for
Mornings suit solo visits, quiet work, and slow starts. Evenings suit dates and small groups — two to four people, one bottle, no rush. It's less suited to a big loud group night, and going in expecting that is the main way people come away underwhelmed.
The other thing worth knowing: because it changes character partway through the day, it's worth deciding which Farewell you're going for. The morning room and the evening room are not the same experience, and both are better when you've chosen one deliberately.
